Jim Gortner began his career in the construction industry in 1974 and joined HCCI in 1988. Jim has been a licensed California general contractor since 1982 and has extensive experience as a project superintendent, project manager and has performed work as a journeyman in the concrete, carpentry, drywall, plastering and roofing trades.
As a forensic expert, Jim’s duties include performing site investigations, analysis for repair or remediation for a variety of project types, and investigating to determine compliance of building codes and construction standards and practices. Jim collaborates with other experts in preparation for mediations, preparing detailed analysis and reports of conditions observed, developing complex matrices of repair scopes and cost estimates, and preparing photographic evidence with supporting documentation of site conditions. Jim works closely with attorneys in construction defect mediation/litigation regarding the standard of care for general contractors and subcontractor trades. Jim has testified as an expert in both trials and arbitrations.
